Kochi , Jun 18 CARe-Keralam, the confederation of Ayurvedic Rennaissance Keralam ltd, has received in principle clearance from the Cochin International Airport Ltd to grow herbal plants in about an 100 acre area in the airport.
CIAL board has given in principle approval to the project, the first such in India and an MOU is expected to be signed soon, Chief Executive Officer of CARe Keralam, Dr T Joy Verghese, told PTI. CARe-Keralam, a joint venture between the Centre, Kerala government and Ayurvedic Industries, will identify an agency for cultivation of herbal plants. Once the yield is ready, CARe- Keralam would purchase it and distribute it to Ayurveda industries. The growers can form clusters for the cultivation,he said. '&aposThe plan is to grow the plants from the compound wall 75 metres towards one side of the 3.75 km of the take-off runway length. There are certain regulations too because of the airport area. The plants should have a maximum of three feet height only,&aposhe said.
